AFTER CARE

From the moment you leave INK STUDIO, it is your responsibility to take care of your tattoo in the best way possible. If you are going to drive a car afterwards, it is wise to eat something before you sit behind the wheel as it is common  to get drowsy after the adrenaline wears off. A tattoo cause a great strain for the body, you need to rest yourself for a while afterwards.

You need:

-Perfume-free mild soap (Lactacyd or Eucerin)

- Bepanthen or “Hustle butter” ointment

-Alcogel / hand rub

- Rest and common sense

Keep the plastic wrap on for at least 5 hours. The idea is to prevent dirt and bacterias from coming in contact with your tattoo. When it's time to remove the wrap, first wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild perfume-free soap. Be sure to remove all color and blood residues. Bathe with a clean dry towel and let the tattoo air dry about 10-15 min. Put a very thin layer of ointment in the tattoo. It is important to use a clean towel, freshly washed sheets and clean clothes if they are to come in contact with your newly made tattoo. If you have pets sleeping in bed, it may be a good idea to let the plastic wrap sit on the first night, unless the animals can sleep elsewhere.

Apply aftercare to your tattoo with a thin layer of ointment 1-2 times a day. The skin must breath so do not cover the tattoo with a thick layer of ointment. When the tattoo begins to heal, it becomes dryer and then begins to itch and flake and it is then ok to apply aftercare a little more often, about 3-4 times / day. We recommend Bepanthen or “Hustle butter” as aftercare ointment. NO home remedies such as oil or petroleum jelly! Always buy a new ointment for your new tattoo. If someone has used the ointment before, there may be amounts of bacterias on the mouthpiece of the tube. Be sure to have clean hands while applying ointments to the tattoo. If you do not have the opportunity to clean your hands, you should definitely not touch or hydrate your newly made tattoo with ointment. It is a natural part of the healing process for the tattoo to scab and (eventually) flakes. It is also common for it to start itching. Let it be! If you remove scab, color can peel off and damage the tattoo or it can become more difficult to heal. Avoid drinking alcohol the first few days after tattoing yourself. Alcohol degrades the body's healing ability and immune system. Also avoid sun, bath, sauna and hard workout until your tattoo has healed.

It usually takes 2-3 weeks for tattoos to heal. Step gradualy down the use of ointment as the skin will otherwise get dry after getting used to regular care. Tattoos always fade slightly over time. To keep yours as nice as possible you should protect it from the sun, preferably with a high sun protection factor.

Please note that there is always some risk of developing infections when you get a tattoo, but by following the care instructions you minimize them significantly. Do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything you are wondering about or uncertain about. Take care and welcome back!
